Go Back to School With a Smile
Summer is full of sugary snacks like ice cream and popsicles. Now, back to school means it is time to take care of your children’s teeth for the rest of the year.
Buy a New Toothbrush
While stocking up on back to school supplies, pick up a new toothbrush for your children. Toothbrushes need replacing every three to four months because the bristles wear out, and brushing becomes less effective. A new toothbrush at the beginning of the school year will last until winter break. Do not forget to grab new floss and mouthwash as well.
Get in a Routine
A new school routine year is a great time to start better oral health habits. Children should brush twice a day and floss thoroughly once a day. Your child should brush for two minutes and may need help brushing the hard to reach places to fight cavities and gingivitis properly. Remind your child until it becomes a routine.
Get healthy snacks into your routine to promote healthy teeth. Put away sugary summer foods high in starch or carbohydrates. Those snacks contribute to the buildup of plaque and acids that decay teeth. Instead, pack your child school snacks that support healthy teeth. Fresh fruit, raw vegetables, and whole-grain crackers are healthier options.
